The gut microbiome is the community of trillions of microorganisms living in your digestive tract, and it does far more than just digest food.

A Brief Overview

The gut hosts bacteria, and in smaller numbers fungi and other microbes, that collectively outnumber human cells in the body and play roles in digestion, immune function, and even mood-related signaling.

Diversity Matters

A more diverse microbiome — a wider variety of bacterial species — is generally discussed favorably in research, though the science of exactly what an ‘ideal’ microbiome looks like is still developing.

Why This Course Focuses Here

Because diet has a fast, measurable effect on microbiome composition (studies show shifts within days), it’s one of the more actionable levers available to most people.

Action Step

Write down your current typical week of meals — this becomes your baseline for later lessons in this course.

Educational content only — this course does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, and it is not a substitute for care from a licensed physician or other qualified provider. Everyone’s body responds differently; talk with your doctor before making significant changes to your diet, sleep, supplement, or exercise routine, especially if you are pregnant, managing a chronic condition, or taking medication. Completing this course does not confer any certification, license, or credential.
